I first heard about Gen. Thomas from Dr. Charles Bryant, Ex Dir of the Virginia Historical Society. He speaks fondly and eloquently of Gen. Thomas and piqued my interest.
I am a member of the Powhtan Civil War Round Table.

Great site. How would you rate him in regards to Gen. James Longstreet?

First time here. My father on all his hats had a the pin with a bugle and number19. My father is passed, but I believe he was in the 22nd in Korea. I never met my father but I have come across many things about the Korean War. Thanks, Don Barrett

Just finished Shelby Foote's trilogy on the Civil War. By way of review, looked up "Rock of Chickamauga". Thanks for providing this site.

Great bio of General Thomas. If it were not for the "Rock of Chickamauga" many more lives might have been lost in the long run. He was truly a great Civil War leader and deserves more credit.

One of our finest General officers. Badly treated by the Government. History has shown civil war scholars his steady genius of command.

My Great-grandfather, Ananias Jackson served under General George Thomas with the Tennessee United States Colored Troops. They were instrumental in destroying The Tennessee Confederate Army under General John Bell Hood.

I've enjoyed your web site since I first came across it. Thomas has been my favorite General for years and you do him justice.

Enjoyed your site. I was researching Thomas and John Palmer as I have original correspondence between the two from 1864. It concerns Palmer's reluctance to serve under Schofield. These items are part of a collection that came from the Palmer estate. Some of them are on sale now on the Gunbroker site. They have a section for Civil War collectibles. If you know anyone that might be interested or if you could shed any light on these documents (they concern a well documented event of the late war) feel free to contact me.

What a great shame it is that General Thomas never received the respect, whatever about the glory, that he deserved. I've recently managed to pursue a long overdue interest in the Civil War and George Thomas' name shines brightly through the pages of history. War is always a terrible thing and civil wars particularly so but the actions of brave men should be recorded and acknowledged honestly. A remarkable man!
