Mary Walker was given the MOH because after the war she demanded a pension for her services. Rather then give her a pension that she didn't deserve, she was given the medal to shut her up. (The requirements to receive it during the civil war were far less stringent then they are today). It was properly revoked and should have stayed that way. It was reinstated for political reasons by gutless politicos.

Gen Thomas may be a relative of ours. My G-Grandmother was Amanda Larilla Thomas and she said that he is a relative of hers. I also have a photo of William Tecumseh Sherman that is an original (wallet size)

I would be greatly interested in any web sites you have concerning General Thomas. He is in my family tree and am interested in finding out what ever I can about him. My great great grandfather married Mary Thomas and I am trying to find out how she is related to him as well.

Thank you kindly for the use of your resources. My Grandfather was a John Thomas, born in Coventry, VT. I am not sure of the details but he was the nephew (or perhaps the grand-nephew?) of the General. I'm not sure how such relationships are classified.

In any event, at one point an uncle of mine tracked down the genaeology and verified the relationship. I have e-mailed the link to your site to my son. He is aware of the relationship but I wanted to take a moment to say thank you: I have always stressed to him that we all need to know where we came from in order to know where we are going. It must have taken since his major is History/Lit. Thank you again,

Gen Thomas is a relative of my husband George Michels Jr., His mother is Nancy Thomas daughter of Francis Edward Thomas of New York. My young son asked why there wasn't much of a mention of Gen Thomas in his history book so we decided to search the web. Imagine our surprise and delight when we made a google search and your web site came up. Thanks!

Thank you for keeping the memory of General Thomas alive! Largely because of this site, I have become fascinated with Gen. G.H. Thomas and I am rediscovering the Civil War from a different prospective.

Thank you for Major General George H. Thomas history. My dad was Colonel George H. Thomas, US Army. I'm Lieutenant George R. Thomas, B-17 Pilot of 8th Air Force, I'm only 81 years old now, but still interested in our history.
Thanks, again, George
