My great great grandfather was in the 9th Regiment Michigan Volunteer Infantry 1861-1865 Company H and served under General Thomas. His Company was commanded by Captain Andrew M. Adams of Wayne County Michigan. I was looking for more information on this Company and where they fought.

Just found your site. This is very exciting to me because I am related to George Thomas. I am just now learning more about the life of this great man. Thanks for the biography list you've provided. I ordered "Education in Violence" today and can't wait to get started reading it.

Excellent site. I am a devotee of Thomas. He is a little known man who really had an effect on history. Too bad there is so little written about him.

Very fascinating...good page. I find General Thomas a real interesting guy...I guess because he was a southerner who served the Union! I think he was the Union's third best general (after Grant and Sherman).

I visited this website today for the first time. Appropriately today is the date that the General earned his famous nickname, "Rock of Chickamauga".

My name is Carter Pittman. My great-grandmother's maiden name was Lelia Thomas. She was one of General George Thomas's "bitter sisters." I grew up with tales of her keeping his photo turned toward the wall and calling him the "traitor." I do not share her sentiments, however. I realize and respect the great amount of courage and conviction it took for him to do what he felt was right even though it would forever alienate him from all of those he loved. I am saddened that the bitterness between him and my grandmother was never resolved. I am proud of his accomplishments and am also proud to be his great-nephew. As far as the bitterness goes, it stopped with me and my children will be proud of their great, great uncle.

I am a history major graduate, and Thomas was my favorite general from the north and Nathan Bedford Forrest was mine from the south obviously for different reasons.

I had a relative with the 89th Ohio Vol. Infantry-Co. D who was captured at Chickamauga and later died at Andersonville, and I have always had a keen interest in that particular battle and of course the "Rock". I enjoyed your website.
